Hi everyone! What??!!? Last post was two years ago? WOW. A lot has changed, people. I'm very sorry to say that Happy To Help is no longer in development - I had many issues with the Unity game engine and there were many bugs that I couldn't fix. I took a break from making the game, and then the project file got corrupted. Six test chambers had been created that I was working super hard on (not to mention I was also working on the dystopian open world city segment near the end of the game), all gone in an instant. I tried to restart development on Unity several times but it was incredibly demotivating to have months of work suddenly gone. So I just decided to focus on my other passions - my profile page just completely left dormant. I'm now much more interested in filmmaking, vfx, 3d modelling etc. and it feels more fulfilling.
A little note about Happy To Help by the way - the story was going to be very exciting and you would solve 10 chambers until finding a way out when being trapped into doing more tests. There was going to be a chase sequence through the facility and out into the city, where I was experimenting with path finding. The end of the game would be you shutting down all the robots and Lectan crumbling to the ground. Regarding Astray, my previous game - there's a cool easter egg in the dead-end corridor where you collect one of the key fragments. If you just walk into the wall to the left, it reveals three images of some people - the pictures are of you, Brad and your boss. About the rocket that some people managed to find in the first version, I was working to create an alternate ending where you find out the boss's secret plans and a rocket gets launched into the sky, but I didn't know enough about animation at the time. Anyways, I'm going to wrap this long post up. So this is it, for now... thank you to everyone who has supported my game dev journey, I'd especially like to shout out @matepribelszky for giving me insightful and helpful feedback on my games and demos (go check out his game Through the Fragmentation - so good) and @_HorrorDuck for being another supportive game dev on this platform. Also I'd like to thank @AlphaThePotatoQueen and @MichaelBlighe for playing my game Astray, that was an amazing experience. This page will be mostly dormant and I won't be returning to making games for the foreseeable future as I focus more on my filmmaking hobbies. Thank you, and goodbye.

This is just a small update addressing some issues that were stated in the reviews. The motion blur effect is now turned down A LOT, you can jump a little bit higher, and you can now SPRINT! Other then that, there are just a few small new things here and there.
Astray 2.0 IS FINALLY OUT!That's right. It is now ready to play and we hope you enjoy it! After you finish playing, it would be appreciated if you left some insightful feedback on the game, telling us how you feel. And if you make a youtube video of you playing it, we'll feature it on our blog! Astray 2.0 has gone through many re-hashes and bugs and errors but after all that, we are so happy to release it and see what people think of it! In other news, after taking a short break from game devving for a while, we started working on a couple of new prototypes and one of them turned out to be the next game we're planning on releasing, hopefully in a few months... introducing: HAPPY TO HELP! Yes, this is going to be Boxo Games' third proper game. It is going to be a scifi action puzzle type shooter game, where you are trapped inside a futuristic facility run entirely by robots. There are game pages on itch.io and Gamejolt that you can check out and follow, and if you want to be the most updated, check out our Gamejolt page for the most up-to-date devlogs. This will hopefully be our most advanced, most entertaining game yet, and we are so excited to release it to the world. It will have a story and level based design, but of course that is only scratching the surface of what is to come in this game. So, if you like that kind of thing, give it a follow to recieve updates on when it will come out and keep track of the development process, if you're interested. Below are some early screenshots from the game: In terms of our other two games, Astray and Explorer, we're not too sure about updating them any time soon as we're hard at work on HAPPY TO HELP. We do have some interesting ideas for a possible new Astray update, so stay tuned for that!
This new upcoming version of Astray that we are working on is going to be jam-packed with secrets and new features to find! We can't really say what there is going to be, but, all we can say is, keep your eyes peeled when you play the update (when it comes out!).
We also have some new screenshots from the upcoming update below! So, we know it has been a very long time since we updated or even made changes to this website, but just here to say, we're back! We started working on Astray 2.0 and Explorer v4 and now we're focusing on building the entire map from scratch again (the old file was messy and the file size was massive, and a lot of improvements can be made with the game as a whole). Some big changes are coming this time around, such as motion blur, particle effects, bloom and overall a much more sleek gameplay experience. As for Explorer v4, that probably won't start work until Astray 2.0 is out, so don't expect it any time soon. Astray 2.0 is being worked on thoroughly, and we'll try to keep you posted! Below are some screenshots from the upcoming 2.0! If you want to be the most updated for Astray or any of our other projects, please visit our Game jolt page and give us a follow to receive updates.
As of right now, we are close to completion of the new Remastered update for Astray, which will breath new life into it with advanced post-proccessing, motion blur, better lighting, voice acting and more! The voice of the main character, Chris, is provided by nathanp913 on fiverr, and we highly reccommend you check him out (he was amazing to work with): www.fiverr.com/nathanp913?source=order_page_user_stamp_link We are currently experiencing general audio bugs, however we have set up a poll on Gamejolt asking if you want us to take more time to fix the bug (which would mean a later release) or release the new update as it is without the dialogue, and configure it in a later version. Please go and vote on that poll and we will come to a conclusion soon. Also, we are going away for two weeks so we can't work on the update but hopefully you will be able to still talk and ask about anything. Now, this is a bit outdated, but a few weeks ago, two small youtubers named Phantom Menace and MichaelBlighe have played the game and uploaded their gameplay to their youtube channels! We are so happy about this because it means the game will hopefully rise in popularity a bit more. And, that's all for now! Today, the first gameplay video of our third game ‘Astray’ has been made by a channel called Alpha Wolf. We just want to say we are so grateful for you playing it and that you enjoyed the play experience. Please go support her as to let more people know about her channel as she helps small indie game developers like us achieve our dreams. Here is the video:
Happy Easter from Boxo Games! That’s all for now - stay tuned on here and on our devlogs because Astray is coming as soon as we get it finished; we’re working so hard on it and we’re excited to show it to everyone, so please be patient. It’s coming soon.
v3 of Explorer is now available on itch.io and Gamejolt! v3 is called the 'nighttime update' because, yes, this is set at night this time. The player now has a little tent and the fireflies around here like the huts! Terrain has changed a little bit, along with some rocky surfaces here and there. v3 also comes with music, water and a stylish exploring hat! There isn't a night and day cycle yet, we're thinking of possibly adding that in v4. |
